Big Bang nucleosynthesis and the baryonic content of the universe

چکیده
A review of the latest measurements of the primordial abundances of the light nuclei D, He, He and Li is given. We discuss in particular the primordial abundance Yp of He as measured in blue compact dwarf galaxies. We argue that the best measurements now give a “high” value of Yp along with a “low” value of D/H, and that the two independent measurements are consistent within the framework of standard Big Bang nucleosynthesis with a number of light neutrino species Nν = 3.0±0.3 (2σ).

Big Bang Nucleosynthesis and Abundances of Light Elements
Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBNS) theory is sketched, indicating the dependence of primordial abundances of D, 3He, 4He and 7Li on the mean baryonic density of the universe and the dependence of 4He on the number of neutrino families and the neutron half-life. Observational data and inferred primordial abundances of these elements are reviewed and shown to be consistent (within errors) either wit...
متن کاملSome Key Questions in Early Universe Cosmology and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis
For all the interesting possible phenomena which might have occurred during the early universe, there are really only two observational cosmological probes. Of those two, the only probe during the relevant radiation dominated epoch is the yield of light elements during the epoch of big bang nucleosynthesis. The synthesis of light elements occurs in the temperature regime from 108 to 1010 K and ...
متن کاملHas cosmological dark matter been observed ?
There are many indications that ordinary matter represents only a tiny fraction of the matter content of the Universe, with the remainder assumed to consist of some different type of matter, which, for various reasons must be nonluminous (dark matter). Among these indications are the inflationary scenarios which predicts that the average energy density of the Universe coincides with the so call...
متن کاملTHE Be(d,p)2α CROSS SECTION AT BIG BANG ENERGIES AND THE PRIMORDIAL Li ABUNDANCE
The WMAP satellite, devoted to the observations of the anisotropies of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation, has recently provided a determination of the baryonic density of the Universe with unprecedented precision. Using this, Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) calculations predict a primordial Li abundance which is a factor 2− 3 higher than that observed in galactic halo dwarf stars. ...
متن کاملCmb Constraints on a Baryonic Dark Matter-dominated Universe
In recent years, upper limits on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies combined with predictions made by theories of galaxy formation, have been extremely powerful in ruling out purely baryonic dark matter (BDM) universes. However, it has recently been argued that the absence of a prominent second peak in the anisotropy spectrum measured by the BOOMERanG-98 and MAXIMA-1 experiments...
